# Tracking status

Learn the 10-stage recruiting pipeline ProductiveRecruit uses to track every college on your target list, from Researching to Signed.

Every school on your [target list](/docs/colleges/target-list) has a status — a single field that tells you and your coaches exactly where things stand with that program. Status is what turns a long list of schools into an actual recruiting pipeline you can work.

## The recruiting pipeline

Statuses run in a fixed order, from first look to final decision. Click the **(i)** icon next to the "Status" column on your Target List to see the same descriptions shown here.

| Order | Status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Researching | You're looking into this program. No contact yet. |
| 2 | To Contact | On your list to reach out to. |
| 3 | Initial Contact Sent | You've sent your first message or email to the coach. |
| 4 | In Contact | You and the coach are actively communicating. |
| 5 | Campus Visit | You've scheduled or completed an unofficial or official visit. |
| 6 | Offered | The program has extended an offer to you. |
| 7 | Committed | You've committed to this program. |
| 8 | Signed | You've signed your National Letter of Intent or commitment form. |
| 9 | Not Interested | You've decided this program isn't the right fit. |
| 10 | Not Offered | The program didn't extend an offer. |

Every school you add to your target list starts at **Researching** by default.

## Changing a target's status

You can update status two ways:

- On the school's **program profile page**, click the status badge at the top of the page and use the **Edit status** modal, then **Save status**.
- On your **Target List**, open the kebab menu on any row and choose **Change Status**.

Every status change is logged to that program's Activity tab, so you (and your [organization's staff](/docs/organizations/staff-roles-and-permissions), if you're on a team) always have a record of when things moved.

## Marking a target Signed or Committed

Setting a target to **Signed** or **Committed** does more than update a badge. ProductiveRecruit treats these as your one true answer for that sport — it automatically marks your public [profile](/docs/profile/commitment) as committed to that program, and it demotes any other target currently sitting at Signed or Committed back to **Researching**. Only one program can be your active commitment at a time, so double-check before you set this on the wrong school.

## Campus visits are tracked separately

Logging a visit (the **"Log a campus visit"** button on any program page) records its own entry (a rating, notes, and a visit date) but it does **not** automatically move the target's status to "Campus Visit." If you want that status reflected on your target list, set it yourself using either method above. Status and campus visits share a name but track different things.

## Last Contacted, not status

Your Target List's **Last Contacted** column updates automatically whenever you send an outreach email to that program. It isn't tied to status at all. A school can sit at "Researching" for weeks and still show a recent contact date if you've emailed the coach without changing its status yet.
