# Can I edit a sent email?

No. Once an email sends, it's locked. Learn what statuses still allow editing and what to do instead if you need to fix a mistake.

No. Once an email leaves your outbox, ProductiveRecruit can't edit or recall it — same as any other email you've sent from Gmail. This isn't a limitation we're planning to lift; it's standard email behavior.

## What you can still change

The **Edit** option only shows up on emails that are still in **Draft** status. As soon as an email moves to **Processing**, **Sent**, **Opened**, **Failed**, **Bounced**, or **Spam**, the edit action disappears entirely from that row's menu.

Here's what's available at each stage:

| Status | Edit | Delete | View |
|---|---|---|---|
| Draft | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Processing | No | Yes | Yes |
| Sent / Opened | No | No | Yes |
| Failed / Bounced / Spam | No | Yes | Yes |

Once an email actually goes out and lands (Sent or Opened), you can only open a read-only copy. You can't edit it or delete it from your list. There's also no resend or duplicate button, so you can't quietly re-fire a corrected version under the same record.

## What to do if you made a mistake

- **Typo or small correction:** send a short, friendly follow-up email to the same coach. It's normal and reads better than you'd think.
- **Wrong attachment or link:** same fix, a quick follow-up with the correct file or link.
- **Not sure it even sent:** check the email's status and open/click activity before assuming it needs fixing at all. See [Opens, clicks & views explained](/docs/tracking/opens-clicks-views).
- **Haven't heard back and you're worried the mistake killed your shot** — that's rarely the case. Read [I haven't heard back from a coach](/docs/faq/no-coach-reply) before writing it off.

If you catch the mistake before sending, you're fine — anything still in Draft can be edited freely. Review your message on the [send a single email](/docs/email/send-a-single-email) screen before hitting send to catch typos early.

## What's next

- Learn how to [send a single email](/docs/email/send-a-single-email) and review it before it goes out.
- See how [replies and threads](/docs/email/replies-and-threads) work once a coach writes back.
- Check [deliverability best practices](/docs/faq/deliverability-best-practices) to reduce the odds you need a fix-it follow-up in the first place.
